While all the galleries at the 2014 Milwaukee Avenue Arts Festival were housed within empty storefronts, one pop-up gallery in particular took advantage of the stark nature of the space. It incorporated its emptiness into their exhibit’s theme of doom impending.
Shadowlands was housed in the empty basement at the former Ben Franklin store at 2775 N Milwaukee Ave and curated by Comfort Station. Immediately upon descending the stairs, visitors would have to take a few seconds to adjust to the darkness, but would be would be drawn to the loud clanging and bright flashes.in the corner of the room. The darkness of the basement, in contrast to the bright ground-level floor, was incorporated creatively into the exhibit,
