Chicago had an April parade at sunrise on Holy Saturday. Crews moved a steel bridge along North Avenue from Ashland to Western, then up Western Avenue to Bloomingdale, where it is being re-purposed as part of The Bloomingdale Trail. Not only does it give allow The Bloomingdale Trail to preserve part of its heritage, but this type of bridge will also allow more space and fewer hazards in travel lanes on Western Avenue.
To see fast-motion footage of the bridge being lowered into place, check out LoganSquare.TV’s raw video of the final process of placing the bridge at trail level. It’s really an amazing process to watch!
