Elastic Jazz Experiments Reaches for New Sounds in Music

On March 30, 2013, Elastic in Logan Square (then known as Elastic Sound & Vision Gallery), hosted a special combination of artists as part of their “Jazz Experiments” series.

The first act was the jazz trio Parker, Abrams, Herndon, which was followed by the hip-hop act, The Primeridian.  The real treat of the night came, however, when the two acts combined for a third set.  That’s what we have for you here. A pure blend of improvised jazz and hip-hop. That night at Elastic, no one in the room had previously experienced these two musical styles combined.

True to the form of improv, this was the first time these two groups had performed together. The first few minutes is a combination of basic rhythms and rhymes, but after several minutes, a true musical transformation occurs. It’s a little bit jazz, and it’s a little bit hip-hop, and it’s all free-flowing.

Take your time. Grab a beverage. Sit back and relax before you enjoy this set.
