Many neighbors don’t realize that Walt Disney was born in Chicago, just outside Logan Square. The house where he was born was built by his father in 1892 and still stands today at the southwest corner of Tripp and Palmer.
The house has changed over the past century. It has been lengthened and a basement was added. It’s currently being renovated to look as close as possible to the way it did when it was the Disney family home.
Walt’s 114th birthday is this Saturday, December 5th and will be celebrated with cake and song at the house from noon to 1PM. There will also be a fundraiser at The Logan Theatre from 4:30 til 7:30 Saturday. Attendees have the option of dedicating a pavement stone inscribed with their name to be permanently placed outside the Disney Birthplace. You can find more information about the birthday celebrations continuing all weekend by visiting the Walt Disney Birthplace event page.
